Why choose a ceramic lampshade rather than another material?
Metal reflects, plastic ages poorly. Ceramic, on the other hand, blossoms over time. It is a natural, warm material that transforms light rather than simply letting it pass through. Here is what concretely sets it apart:
- Natural warmth : ceramic absorbs and diffuses light without harshness. It creates an atmosphere, not just lighting.
- Guaranteed uniqueness : each handmade piece carries its own glazing and firing variations. Two ceramic lampshades from the same model will never be strictly identical.
- Durability : made without chemicals, from natural materials, ceramic is designed to last for years without deteriorating.
- Adaptability : its natural texture works in dialogue with wood, concrete, stone or linen. It fits into every interior style.
How to choose the right ceramic lampshade?
The style and available finishes
The right choice begins with your existing decoration, not with the light fixture itself. A ceramic lampshade must blend harmoniously with the atmosphere already present in the room: colours, materials, furniture or even decorative style.
In a contemporary interior, for example, you will favour clean shapes and sober tones, while a warmer or more artisanal decoration can welcome textured finishes and natural colours. The aim is to create visual continuity so that the light fixture naturally completes your interior.
To adapt to these different decorative worlds, our pendant lights are available in a wide palette of verified finishes :
- Neutral finishes: creamy white, ivory, antique beige for refined or minimalist interiors;
- Warm finishes: cognac, rust, terracotta for rustic or Mediterranean atmospheres;
- Character finishes: lapis lazuli, green Provence, garnet red, antique turquoise for assertive interiors;
- Elegant finishes: golden moka, brown, olive green for discreet and timeless decoration
The room and the use
A ceramic lampshade can find its place throughout the home:
- Dining room : above the table, it structures the space and invites people to linger
- Kitchen : above an island, it combines functionality and decorative character
- Bedroom : it diffuses a soft light, perfect for a soothing atmosphere
- Entrance or hallway : a single well-chosen piece is enough to set the tone for the whole home
Our collection of ceramic lampshades
Each model has its own identity. Here are the flagship pieces from our collection of ceramic pendant lights:
- Tomar : round and generous shape, available in rust, ivory, cognac, green Provence, creamy white and garnet red. The most versatile model in the collection.
- Beja : sculptural and assertive, in antique beige or antique turquoise. It naturally becomes the focal point of a room.
- Maia : available in lapis lazuli and cognac, for a touch of depth and originality.
- Viana ceramic : inspired by the Art Deco style, in a beige finish. Its plays of light are distinctive and unique.
All these pieces are made to order, delivered with a 1.5 m cable and a ceiling rose, without a bulb.
White or coloured ceramic lampshade: which one should you choose for your interior?
A white ceramic lampshade, or one in a neutral finish such as ivory or antique beige, suits any interior. It fades into the background and lets the rest of the decoration speak, while bringing a warmth that industrial white cannot offer.
A coloured finish, on the contrary, takes a stance. Rust above a wooden table, lapis lazuli in an immaculate hallway, green Provence in a kitchen with natural tones: colour becomes a strong decorative accent. It transforms the atmosphere of a room far beyond its lighting function alone.
Ceramic lighting trends in 2026
Interior decoration is returning to natural materials, authenticity, and objects that have a story. Artisanal ceramic fits fully into this underlying movement. Several trends are confirmed for 2026:
- Earthy tones (rust, cognac, terracotta, sand) dominate decorative palettes
- Slow design is gaining ground against mass production: we buy less, but better
- Natural materials such as ceramic, linen and wood are replacing synthetic finishes
- Warm light is favoured in living spaces, far from cold white lighting
Choosing an artisanal ceramic lampshade means becoming part of this underlying trend, not a passing fashion.
Porcelain lampshade: an artisanal heritage at the heart of our creations
Porcelain is ceramic's noble cousin. Finer and more translucent, it reveals a different quality of light: crystalline, soft, almost airy. Our porcelain pendant light collection draws on Portuguese artisanal traditions passed down from generation to generation.
The models Alvor, Coimbra, Faro, Elvas and Viana porcelain embody this heritage. Finishes such as white, terracotta, sand, olive, golden moka, brown are obtained by colouring the clay body before shaping, which guarantees a deep and homogeneous shade, impossible to reproduce industrially.
Porcelain is not an ordinary lampshade. It is a living material that evolves with the light, the time of day and the viewing angle.
Manufacturing and durability: the standard behind every ceramic lampshade
Each Luz Editions piece goes through a rigorous process in several stages:
- Creation of the model and manufacture of the mould
- Casting and shaping entirely by hand
- Drying and hand-finishing
- First firing at 980°C
- Glazing
- Final firing at 1,400°C
This process is the guarantee of a quality that industrial production cannot reproduce. The slight variations in tone and texture between two pieces are not defects: they are the marks of handwork.
Our philosophy can be summed up in a few words: create less, but create better. Pieces designed to last, to become more beautiful with time.
FAQ - Ceramic lampshade
What is the difference between a ceramic lampshade and a ceramic pendant light?
A lampshade technically refers to the part that covers and directs the light. A pendant light is a complete light fixture suspended from the ceiling. In our creations, ceramic forms both the body and the light diffuser: the distinction becomes essentially semantic.
Luz Editions does indeed offer complete ceramic or porcelain pendant lights, ready to be installed, with cable and accessories included. Only the bulb is not included, leaving you absolute freedom to choose the ideal lighting intensity and warmth to enhance your space.
In which room should you install a ceramic lampshade?
A ceramic lampshade can be installed anywhere: dining room, kitchen, bedroom, living room, entrance or hallway. The richness of the available finishes makes it possible to find a solution suited to every space and every desired atmosphere.
What colours are available for Luz Editions ceramic pendant lights?
In ceramic: rust, ivory, cognac, green Provence, creamy white, garnet red, antique beige, antique turquoise and lapis lazuli.
In porcelain: white, terracotta, sand, olive green, golden moka and brown. All these finishes are obtained from natural materials, without chemicals.
How to install and secure your terracotta lampshade?
Installation follows the same principle as any suspended light fixture: fixing the supplied ceiling rose, passing the cable through, electrical connection.
The ceiling rose is included in every Luz Editions delivery, along with a 1.5 m cable.
Can the cable length be adjusted?
Yes. Our pendant lights are delivered with a 1.5 m cable. It is possible to add extra metres to adapt the height to your configuration and to the height of your ceiling.
