Sculpting The Sun: Inside the Creative Process of Viana pendant light

Hello, everyone!

I'm going to tell you a little bit about my creative process and the sources of inspiration behind one of my brand's most iconic pendant lights: the Viana.

Born in France to Portuguese parents, I grew up between two cultures. I worked for years in Paris in the international beauty industry before returning to what I am truly passionate about: creating objects with soul. Through these creations, I wanted to build a bridge between my two worlds, combining the excellence I learned in France with Portuguese craftsmanship.

With Luz Editions, I strive every day to bring memory, meaning, and beauty into our lives. I believe that our homes should welcome and envelop us. For this reason, they deserve better than generic decoration; they deserve love and feeling, so that they, in turn, can provide us with security and protection every day.

Creating Viana: when the sun becomes shape

It all started with a list of words, words that bring joy to everyday life. It may seem trivial, but I'm sure many of you don't ask yourselves what brings you joy! The sun rising every day is a source of joy for me (and one of the reasons I moved here).

And then it clicked: why not make a ceiling light in the shape of the sun? A piece that would evoke the symbolism of its light through its beauty.

This shape became Viana: a pendant light that combines the geometry of Art Deco (through the sun's rays) and the warmth of the Portuguese sun. A round but precise shape, soft but architectural. Both elegant and original, it makes its presence felt in the room.

Like all Luz pendant lights, Viana is named after a city in Portugal.

Viana do Castelo seemed the ideal choice: a northern city known for its annual summer festival in August celebrating tradition, music, and color. Once again: light and memory.

Ceramic or porcelain: what you choose and why it matters

Viana is available in two finishes, each bringing a different design and energy to your space:

  • Porcelain: slightly translucent perfection.

If you choose porcelain, you are choosing a more precise design and pigments for color. In this version, light passes through the material, creating a soft, ambient glow and a more understated, poetic result.

  • Glazed ceramic: the richness of imperfection.

In this version, the result is more raw and less perfect. The piece is glazed by hand and the result can also vary during firing. However, it adds more color, shine, and personality to a space.

Whether porcelain or ceramic, each piece is cast individually in small batches and finished by hand by artisans.

Viana is not factory-made or dictated by trends.

It is a piece with timeless craftsmanship that has a soul.

Why light matters more than ever?

Because now more than ever, we are searching for meaning, and handmade pieces fit perfectly into this quest.

Because in times of crisis and reflection, we need elements that ground us.

Because a handcrafted pendant light is more than just an object; it is a choice that enhances the beauty of your home.

Viana is that precious resource: it fills the space. It warms. It invites you to slow down.
